Widescreens are going to have a different resolution than a non-widescreen.
For instance A non-widescreen 16″ LCD might have a resolution of 1280 x 1024, while a 16″ widescreen may have a resolution of 1366 x 768. More width, less height.
All LCD's have a native resolution in which they look the ideal. The manual that came with the monitor should list yours.
