Is it possible to play content on an LCD screen without a player?

I have seen some advertising screens that you place a chip inside them and they play the content. Are these specially made screens or can this type of technology work on an ordinary LCD screen

Yes, all of the 2008 Panasonic LCD HDTVs have a built-in SD card slot reader that grants you to play a slide show with your own JPEG images.
Samsung series 6, 7, 8 and 9 LCD HDTVs all have a USB port that grants them to read and play JPEG images, MP3 music files and MP4 video files. In fact, the series 7 & 8 models have internal storage so that you can load and manage this content right inside your TV without the external jump drive installed in the USB “Wiselink” port.
Sony's new “W”, “Z” series, XBR6, XBR7 and XBR8 models also allow you to read and play JPEG and MP3 files from a jump drive attached via a USB port.
Additional Deatils: The SD card reader has been built into some of Panasonic's higher-end DVD recorders/players and will allow you to view JPEG images on any TV.
