Why is there no motion lag with plasma compared with LCD?
LCD is a “Crystal” with wires embedded inside. When voltage is applied - the crystal can darken to block light or when voltage is stopped it 'relaxes' to let light through. This effect is not as fast as the 'explosion' that a plasma uses. It takes some time to transition. This is why LCD has some motion lag.
Remember when flat-panel computer Monitors came out? They weren’t good for video games? Same issue: the pixels couldn’t switch ultra-fast to keep up with fast motion on video games. Eventually they developed screens with faster display times so it became acceptable, but a traditional big-tube CRT monitor still looked crisper/better with fast motion.
With LCD, you are changing the say of an actual liquid, which comparatively takes some time. The state of the liquid ultimately decides how much light from the backlight gets through.
