With my LCD monitor, do I even need to have a screensaver active? I've heard conflicting arguments regarding burn-in with LCD Monitors.

Is there any danger or risk posed at all if I were to leave the image of my desktop on the LCD screen for several hours or longer?

Answer:
No, screensavers were created on early phosphor (crt) pcs due to screen burn. The new Monitors have virtually eliminated the problem. You might also note that screensavers may have negative effects on some programs you run. They are more of a hindurance these days. As FI stated, they are purely entertainment now

Answer:
There is a very tiny risk of burn-in, I don't think it could be a practical problem, but a screen saver on an LCD is absolutely useless. And leaving your LCD on while not using it for hours is quite energy-consuming. I advocate you setting a time-out (like 20 minutes) for auto turn-off. This way I'm sure there are no risks.
